Lekkerkerker family company

History

Lekkerkerker Food is part of the Lekkerkerker Group, a true family business in the Green Heart of the Netherlands with a passion for dairy. We combine masterful craft, quality and social responsibility with cutting-edge innovation and flexibility. Thanks to our years of experience in the dairy industry and our broad technological knowledge, we know exactly how to excel in quality and flavour.

Since 2014, the Lekkerkerker Group has been run by its second generation, with brother and sister duo Niels and Mariska Lekkerkerker responsible for running the two units. Lekkerkerker Dairy & Food Equipment, run by Niels, focuses on the purchase, reconditioning and sale of dairy equipment around the world, while Mariska is responsible for Lekkerkerker Food and its manufacturing firm.

FIRST CHEESEMAKING ACTIVITIES

45 years ago, our founder Kees Lekkerkerker recognised something in our traditional Dutch cheese that others had failed to spot: the opportunity to create new recipes, add herbs and spices, and reduce the fat content. Based on this realisation, he started to make cheese at the family farm and opened his own cheese shop.

FOUNDING OF LEBO KAAS

His cheesemaking activities and cheese store expanded and the number of products continually increased. In 1991, Kees Lekkerkerker founded the company Lebo Kaas (Eng: Lebo Cheese), which focused on the production of cream cheese products. To this very day, at our production facility in Lopik, we remain the only company in the Netherlands to produce cream cheese in-house from fresh Dutch milk sourced from meadow-grazed cows.

FOUNDING OF LEKKERKERKER EQUIPMENT

Once demand began to grow, we started to build our own production equipment as well as giving second-hand machinery a new lease of life and adjusting it to meet our own strict requirements. In order to do this, we set up our sister company Lekkerkerker Dairy & Food Equipment 25 years ago. This company now exports production lines and equipment to over 150 businesses in the food industry located in over 40 different countries.

FOUNDING OF KASI FOOD

Kasi Food was established in 2006. After producing cheese spread within the group for many years, our growth and opportunities in this area became so great that we decided to incorporate this activity into an independent entity. We then purchased the name Kasi Food from a small cheese-spread factory in the Dutch town of Woerden. In 2005, we acquired the buildings at the present-day site and installed the production lines. Since then, the company has grown substantially in terms of turnover, products and employees.

INTRODUCTION OF VEGAN PRODUCTS

We are convinced that feeding the world of tomorrow will require a transition to a more plant-based/vegan diet and with this in mind, we have devoted substantial attention to plant-based alternatives. Since 2020, we have introduced plant-based alternatives for our fresh cream cheese and our cheese solutions.

FOUNDING OF LEKKERKERKER FOOD

In June 2021, we amalgamated the activities of Lebo Kaas and Kasi Food into a single company named Lekkerkerker Food. This merger reinforced our position in the market and we hope it will allow us to optimise the service we provide to our clients.
